Back in 2022, I was living with my husband in an apartment complex five minutes away from a perpetual adoration chapel. One afternoon there, I started meditating on that day’s gospel acclamation.

It started, as many movies do, with popcorn and soda in the buttery, slightly sticky comfort of Studio Movie Grill in Seminole, Florida. We were, per usual, running late, having already missed the first ten minutes.

Mark your calendars for September 7! Alongside the popular Bl. Carlo Acutis, Pope Leo XIV will also be canonizing another young and inspirational person: Pier Giorgio Frassati. Once declared “the man of the eight beatitudes” by Pope John Paul II, Bl. Pier Giorgio refutes the myth that holiness is reserved for older age. In today’s blog, Beckie Gautreau reflects on this soon-to-be saint’s life and legacy.

In 2019, Brandon Forschino took a long, scenic trek up the Boulevard Trail to Tennessee’s Mt. LeConte. He collapsed from dehydration. Upon recovering, he had a realization: “I had grossly overestimated my strength, physical and spiritual . . . “

On Friday, May 8, Robert Francis Prevost addressed the world for the first time as Pope Leo XIV. His first address included gratitude towards the late Pope Francis, a Hail Mary, and an emphasis on being a missionary Church, seeking “peace, charity, and closeness, especially to those who are suffering.”

Particularly moving was the manner in which the new pope began his address. He first reminded us of the risen Christ’s “first greeting”–Peace be with you.
